A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
John Messina, MNYCA President
MNYCA members,
I’d like to wish you all a happy spring. The year is flying by, and another successful Eastern Coatings Show has come and gone. It was a great event, bringing together professionals from all aspects of the coatings industry. A special thank you to Douglas Lugo for all his hard work organizing the event and to Harrah’s Resort for hosting.
There is also a lot to look forward to as we head into the warmer months. Our Annual Meeting will take place on June 3rd, 2025, at Macaluso’s in Hawthorne, NJ with a cocktail party from 6-9pm. We will finalize our officer and board of directors’ positions for the upcoming 2025-2026 year, and we will also announce our scholarship winners.
Our annual Golf Outing will take place on June 12th at Galloping Hill in Kenilworth, NJ. A continental breakfast will be served before the 9 AM shotgun start followed by awards and lunch from 2-4 PM.
On July 31st, we will enjoy an afternoon of baseball at the Audi Club in Yankee Stadium. It’s a great opportunity to have some fun and network with others in the coatings industry. I hope to see you there!
In addition, we are looking to participate in some community outreach programs. We are currently discussing possible projects with Rebuilding Together North Jersey and hope to have a project on the calendar soon.
I would also like to announce that we are expanding our membership and welcoming members from the Philadelphia area. This will make our association stronger and also afford those in the Philadelphia area the opportunity to be a part of our community and all we have to offer.
As always, thank you for all of your support and participation which keeps the MNYCA thriving. I look forward to seeing you all soon.
Kind regards,
John Messina, President MNYCA
cOATINGS INDUSTRY CONVENES AT 2025 EASTERN COATINGS SHOW
More than 120 exhibitors and 1,200 attendees gathered in Atlantic City to learn about the latest technologies. Coatings World - David Savastano - Contributing Editor
One of the interesting developments in the post-pandemic business world is the interest in smaller regional shows. The major conferences and trade shows are still faring quite well, while maintaining attendance numbers at local shows has been challenging.
This is certainly the case in the paint and coatings field. The European Coatings Show, American Coatings Show and CHINACOAT are all doing well, while some regional gatherings, notably the Eastern Coatings Show and Western Coatings Show, are remaining strong.
A great example is the 2025 Eastern Coatings Show, which was held May 13- 15 at Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City, NJ. Organized by the Eastern Coatings Federation and hosted by the Philadelphia Society for Coatings Technology, the New England Society for Coatings Technology and the Metropolitan New York Coatings Association, this year’s show was attended by 1,200 industry professionals, and featured more than 120 exhibitors and 42 technical presentations.
“We continued to have strong attendance this year with 1,200 attendees,” said Chuck Jones, president of the Eastern Coatings Show, after the show. “The high energy was evident from the opening reception to the close of the exhibit hall. The talks that were selected for the technical program were high quality, and from the opening networking events to the end, we have had a good crowd of engaged attendees.”
The Keynote talk was given by Sully Sullivan, president of DayGlo Color Corporation, who discussed “Manufacturing in the Age of Social Media: Why Making Stuff Matters.”
There also was a panel discussion, moderated by Coatings World’s Dale Pritchett, which covered “Investing Financial and Intellectual Capital in an Ever-Changing Market.” The panel featured George Pilcher of ChemQuest, Dan Pickard at Buchanan, and David Witker from Benjamin Moore.
